About Us

Primke designs came into existence when we started hand dying stranded cotton threads in 2003, as we were already designing Embroidery patterns and kits we decided to sell both under the name of Primke Designs.  For those of you who wonder were the name came from, it is the maiden name of our maternal great grandmother and we thought it had a good ring to it  As the women on our mother's side of the family were all great needle women we thought this was a good connection.

Since the start we have expanded the cotton threads to include Perle 5, 8 and 12 and in 2011 we started hand dying fabrics for counted embroidery these include Lugano and Cashel.  As less and less coloured fabrics were coming into Australia and this seem a good solution to the problem.  We are also ensuring that there perle cottons available to match at least some of our colours, for those people who are into Hardanger embroidery.

When I say We, Primke designs comprises of 2 sisters and a brother, myself Rosemarie, sister Monika and brother Gunter.  Together we also run an Embroidery supplies web shop based in South Australia, we design projects and also teach embroidery.  Our work has been published in the Embroidery and Cross Stitch magazines and I have taught for the Embroiderers' Guild of South Australia, both at the guild and on their Cyber class program.
